Sometimes you make plans . . . and then you change them.
And sometimes, you publish those plans in your book and need to create a little press release later to inform your readers that you didn’t know what the heck you were talking about. 😂
For those of you who don’t know, Archives of the Warden is my contemporary fantasy/paranormal suspense series. It’s about a group of unsuspecting individuals tasked with protecting two worlds: Earth, and the spirit world tied to it.
It’s what I call an “anthological series”, following three separate storylines that ultimately wind up joining together to create one epic finale.
My definition of "Anthological"
Archives of the Warden is a series built of sub-series. (Somewhat like Terry Pratchett’s Discworld.)
The books within AOTW are highly interconnected and their release order is intentionally designed to develop your understanding of the world/greater story arc.
(Should you ever desire to reread the series, you could read each sub-series as a whole, completed story; but it's highly recommended that you read them in publication order on your first read-through.)
Sub-Series Explanation
Within AOTW, there were originally three sub-series leading to the final, overarching series arc. This has changed to three sub-series total, the final storyline including the ultimate conclusion to the series.
These sub-series each take place in small towns during different time periods:
DeVerre, WA (2021-2022)
Porthaven, ME (2013)
Mapleton, VA (2023) (The final sub-series will leave the town eventually, bringing all the characters together as they work to defeat the villain(s) and bring balance between the natural world and spirit world.)
The names of the sub-series are:
The Veil of DeVerre
The Creatures of Porthaven
The Oracle of Mapleton
Now, for the most important update
The first two books of the series take place in DeVerre, WA, following the storyline of brothers Peter and Spencer Collins.
Book three, The Raven’s Cry, which comes out later this year, will take place in Porthaven, ME.
Originally, the plan was for book four to take us to Mapleton, VA. This is what has changed.
At the end of book two, Vault of Stone, I put this little note:
“Peter & Spencer will return in book five of Archives of the Warden”
This is officially incorrect.
Due to discussions with management (aka, my husband and myself), we have determined that the appropriate build to the series is as follows:
#1, Lake of Glass — The Veil of DeVerre
#2, Vault of Stone — The Veil of DeVerre
#3, The Raven’s Cry — The Creatures of Porthaven
#4, VOM* — The Veil of DeVerre
#5, TWH* — The Creatures of Porthaven
#6, OS&E* — The Oracle of Mapleton
#7, TSW* — The Creatures of Porthaven
#8, FOS* — The Veil of DeVerre
#9, OS&D* — The Oracle of Mapleton
#10, O?&C* — The Oracle of Mapleton
#11, O?&D* — The Oracle of Mapleton
#12, OW&H* — The Oracle of Mapleton
(*unannounced and/or working titles)
So, for all of you who have read the first two books and are desperately awaiting the conclusion to the outrageous predicament I left our beloved brothers in . . .
Peter & Spencer will return in BOOK FOUR of Archives of the Warden 🎉
Thanks for reading this update. I hope you all have a fantastic weekend ahead of you!
Much love,
🖤 Victoria (V.K. Dixon)
