Welcome to my Substack!
I chose to launch a Substack to release my fantasy romance novel Fire & Night in a serial fashion—one chapter at a time.
Why? Because I love this story. I love the characters, the world, and the romance. And I want to get it out into as many hands as possible.
What is Fire & Night?
Fire & Night is a romantic epic fantasy novel about heroism, idealism, and discovering what it is you really want. It has undergone two revisions, two beta-reads, and multiple personal edits.
Fire & Night is book one in a trilogy. The other two books are currently first drafts and I hope to begin the revision process on book two by the end of 2023.
Synopsis:
Sometimes getting what you want, means taking a risk . . . .
Evylin Glaas longs for adventure.
Trained by her Veteran uncle and influenced by the numerous fantasy novels she’s read, Evylin dreams of leaving behind her tiny village in exchange for travel, excitement, and more. But with the patriarchal laws of Ephria and the never-ending Centurial War raging, leaving on her own isn’t an option.
Captain Deckard lives to serve.
Inspired by the legends of old, Deckard volunteered to join the Ephrian Army with the hopes of helping save his country. Instead, he’s a soldier-turned-recruiter nowhere near the front lines of battle. But this mission is his chance of promotion; if he can recruit 500 men from the Shires of Ephria, he may just earn his place in the army and manage to make a difference after all.
When the captain arrives in her village, Evylin determines that their goals may just align. Running out of options, Evylin and Deckard make the choice to take a risk, entwining their lives and futures together. But in pursuit of their individual dreams, they find themselves pulled into more than they bargained for, uncovering a plot against the throne, long-forgotten magic, and the chance to end the war, once and for all.
The first chapter of Fire & Night releases on April 4, 2023
I will be releasing two chapters of Fire & Night each week until the book is complete here on Substack (estimated timeline: 4/4/23-11/3/23). My original intent was to publish the hardcopy of the book this year, but due to the size of the book and the budget it would require for full copy/line edits, proofreads, illustrations, cover design, formatting, and other publishing costs I had to change those plans.
But I didn’t want to wait to get this book into the world.
My hope is to create a community of readers who love this story as much as I do. Ones who love romance-led storylines, grand and fantastic worlds, and characters that feel like your best friends.
If you’d like to read Fire & Night, subscribe so that you don’t miss a chapter!
Much love,
🖤 V.K. Dixon
